Frequently Asked Questions
What is the origin of accras?
The term Acras (or accras) refers to fried, stuffed fritters. In Creole cuisine of the West Indies, these fritters are generally stuffed with cod. During Lent, the period preceding Easter, Christians generally abstain from eating meat on Fridays. The traditional acras recipe is adapted for this occasion with a vegetable filling, including giraumon, a variety of squash similar to butternut squash.
Where can I find the vegetable fritters?
In the frozen food section at the grocery store.
How long do acras last and how should they be stored?
Accras can be stored for 12 months in the freezer. Please refer to the production date indicated on the back of each bag. Once the bag of accras is opened, the product must be kept in the freezer and consumed within 12 months.
Can the product be cooked without thawing it?
In most cases, yes. Frozen products are often designed to be cooked directly from frozen. Refer to the preparation instructions for recommended cooking times.
